Harry and Beth circa 2013

You guys obviously met at UoN but can you tell us a little bit more, was it love at first sight?

Beth: Harry was in a band with some of my friends from my course. We bumped into each other at Fever nightclub on a Wednesday night got chatting and Harry invited me to his gig the next day.

I thought he was so fit and was too scared to talk to him and he didn’t talk to me either. We didn’t meet again until Propaganda the next week, we swapped numbers and things just went from there.

I fancied him and thought he was pretty cool, don’t know if I’d say love at first sight but we got on straight away and we were so comfortable with each other.

Harry: I wouldn’t say love at first sight but I definitely fancied her. My housemate had dragged me out because I owed him one. Beth was studying History on the same course as two of my band mates at the time and recognised me so I invited her to our gig which was the next day.

I didn’t talk to her the next night after the gig because I thought she had only come along to see my band mates, and I thought that she was out of my league. Eventually we bumped into each other at Propaganda and I asked for her phone number.

At what point did you think they were the one?

Beth: By Christmas I knew I’d never felt like this about anyone before. Harry isn’t just my boyfriend he’s also my best friend. We both get on so well with each other and our families and friends so it was a pretty quick process to think that he is the one for me.

Harry: I guess it was at the same point that I realised she was my best friend. We’ve always been close and always had a lot of fun together.

On holiday in Iceland 2016, feeling fresh.

What lessons in life and love did you learn in your time studying with us?

Beth: I became a lot more independent and confident at UoN. Especially with the friends I made, the support of the lecturers and having the experience of living in your own house. My job at the SU really helped too and was a great way of meeting loads of different people. You definitely learn to live on a budget.

In terms of lessons of love I think going with the flow and seeing where things lead, being your own person and the importance of supporting each other at times where uni work and life really gets on top of you. (Particularly with Harry as he left all his work so last minute, which probably stressed me out more than him!) Also having people around you to have fun and relax. Uni is definitely some of the best years of your life!

Harry: I learnt that life is better when you have someone to experience it with and that it’s also important to share common values and attitudes towards life.

Board games fun, still not bored of each other nearly 5 years on.

What are you favourite things about each other?

Beth: Harry is so kind, he’s probably the nicest person I know. He’s so supportive and a great listener. My favourite thing is that we are similar in a lot of ways and we just love having a laugh together about stupid things. He’s my best buddy.

Harry: Beth has an incredible ability to make people feel good about themselves when they are feeling upset, which is why I know she’s going to be a great Special Needs teacher when she graduates from her PGCE this year. She also has amazing sense of humour. Her jokes are dirtier than any ones jokes that I’ve heard. I’m still shocked almost 5 years after meeting her.

Sun, fun and lots of drinks in Barcelona earlier this year.

What are your plans for the future? *Cough* Marriage *Cough*

Beth: Well this is a work in progress at the moment as I’m still studying. We are looking at moving in together once we’re a bit more financially stable (and get a cat). And I’m hoping to be asked the question sometime soon!! We’ll definitely always be together and hopefully in the long-term future we’ll start a family.

Harry:We’re hoping to buy our first house together early next year. So one step at a time! But at the end of the day I think we both know where our relationship going.

Harry graduates in 2013, yay!
