Step-by-step Guide to Applying through Self Service.
You can apply for many of our courses online through the self service form. This blog is a step-by-step guide on how to do it. This applies to postgraduate courses mainly, all full time undergraduate courses apply through UCAS.
First things first you need to access the self service website. You can do this by visiting https://selfservice.northampton.ac.uk/applyonline
You will then need to press the ‘Select Course’ button on the left side of the screen, with the green background. If you’ve started an application and made an account, then you can log into this by clicking on the right hand side.
You will now have to find the course you’re applying for. In the drop down menu, select the academic year you wish to apply for, then in the field marked ‘Keywords’ enter the course title. Press the search button. If a course doesn’t appear then please check you have the right year.
A list of course options that contain your keyword will appear, which means you should be as specific as possible when searching. You can click the course title to view more details.
Once you have selected a course, you may have some course options to choose your from, which can be found on the left side of the screen (one option has been highlighted in blue). The differing options will usually mean a choice of Full Time, Part Time, campus location, International study or start date. Check each one carefully to ensure you apply for your desired course.

When you are happy, press the ‘Apply’ button in the bottom left corner. The course will then be added to your basket as shown below:
Clicking the ‘Continue Browsing’ button means you will be able to view other courses, while keeping the first one in your basket. To continue your application, press the ‘Proceed’ button.
On the next page you will be asked to log in to a registered account. Click ‘create an account’ as highlighted below:
To continue your application you will need to register an account with the University of Northampton. To do this, simply fill out the registration form.
Once you have created an account, you will be able to continue to the next part of the application process. Please make sure to make a note of your password so that you can continue where you leave off if you need to.
As shown in the below screen shot, you will be able to see which parts of the application process you have completed, and how much left you have to do. If you need leave your application, you can save it and come back to it at any time.
The first page is pretty straight forward, where you will need your basic information.
On the Student Status page you will need to declare whether you are a UK, EU or International student.
On the Address Details page, you will need to enter your non-term time address into the ‘Permanent Address section’; this is where you reside outside of the school term.
Clicking ‘Correspondence Address’ opens a new form, where you will enter the address you want all your University of Northampton information to be posted to. If it is the same address as your permanent one, you select it from drop down menu.
After the two forms are filled in you can continue to the next page, where you will need to declare your next of kin. Your next of kin is usually a parent/guardian or spouse. You will need to enter their home address if they do not live in the same place as you.
You will now need to list all of your qualifications, including those you are waiting the results for. You will need to enter the level of study and course title of your qualification (e.g. A Level Psychology), the awarding body for your qualification (e.g. AQA, CIE, WJEC, Edexcel etc.), the grade or level that you achieved in it, and the years you studied.
When you have entered all your qualifications, it should look similar to the below:
This section is only for those applying for Post Graduate courses, if you are not applying for a postgrad, continue on to the next page.
If you are applying for a Post Graduate course, please enter the details of your current employer, and continue on to the next page.
Your application will need to be supported by a referee, who will be able to supply a reference. In this part of your application you will need to fill in their basic information and contact details.
This page is for non-Home applicants only. You will need your VISA permit details and / or passport details. If this is not applicable to you, continue on to the next page.
It’s now time to enter all your supporting evidence:
On this page you will need to upload your Personal Statement, proof of qualifications, and a reference from your referee.
To do this, click the ‘Choose File’ button, and select the file you wish to upload.
In the table, tick the box of the corresponding name,then click ‘Upload’
Once the file uploads, it should look like this:
Once you have uploaded all your documents and attached them, you can save and continue.
This is the last stage where you will have to enter any information. Here you need to declare how you will be paying for your fees. If a governing body is paying for your fees (e.g. Student Finance England) you will have to provide evidence once your payment plan has been confirmed.
Once all your evidence has been supplied, or you are awaiting confirmation, you can save and continue on to the next page where you must read over the terms and conditions of your application. If you agree, you must check the tick box and continue on to the final screen.
If you would like to check and confirm the details you have provided you can click the ‘Change Details button’. If you are happy and ready to submit your application form then hit the Submit button.
