My first ‘Christmas Carol’ in the UK

You have to trust me when I say holidaying in the UK is as interesting as being a student here. It was only very recently that I realised that the UK has so much to offer, and what better time than the Christmas period to see it.

Birmingham

The best way to know a place is to talk to the people who live there, and that is exactly what I did here. Everyone whom I knew from around here told me to visit the German Market that is set up in Birmingham especially during the Christmas period. The best word to describe the market would be ‘Christmassy’. It was all red, white and green everywhere, and it was beautiful.

Oxford Street

I saw so much on social media about the Christmas lights on Oxford Street, I had to go see them in person, and what a site it was. The night sky looked so perfectly beautiful with the lights hanging up there that it almost made me feel as if I am a part of fairytale (Sounds cheesy, but it is true!).

Winter Wonderland

Being an international student seems pretty exciting but it is not always so, the holidays tend to make you lonesome and homesick. In my case my Dad played Santa and got my family here to see me. They arrived on the eve of Christmas, and I couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas present than this. After all the hype I had heard about the place, I had to take my family to Winter Wonderland.

It is definitely a place you have to go to, it is just so festive! And if you are like me and love the thrill of the scary rides it will turn out to be your paradise.

Winchester

What could be a more interesting way to know a place better than to know a bit of it’s history. We tried to indulge in a bit of English history, by visiting the country’s old capital, Winchester. It is such a picturesque little place that you have to keep your camera ready at all times when you walk around the town.

Shopping! (It would have been unfair to not include this in the list)

There is apparently no better time to shop around than the Christmas period. With all the brands putting up big sign boards that shout out ‘SALE’ , one cannot really not stop by. I shopped around at quiet a few places and it consumed almost half of my holidays, but it was totally worth it. Oxford Street, Kingston, Teddington, Hayes, Harlington, Hounslow, and the list goes on.

In a nutshell, the holidays were amazing and as always they went by in a flash, and now it is time to get back to the routine of work. I wouldn’t complain though, this is how it works.
