How to revise: 5 ways to reduce your study stress
Revision can make you want to pull your hair out, and cry into your pillow. But stop! Let go of that hair. Step away from the pillow. This handy how to revise guide bring your stress levels down
1) Variety
Variety is the spice of life they say. Well, I am pretty sure people say that? So bearing this in mind keep your revision approaches varied.
Switch from mind maps, to diagrams, to flash cards. Hey, why not go crazy and throw in some bullet points whilst you are at it. Doing this will keep your mind fresh and help you distinguish between bits of information.
2) Practise, practise, practise
If possible, practise for your exams by using old test papers. Really push yourself by timing your performance. Practising mock essays is also super helpful.
3) Buddy up
Revising in partners or groups can help keep you from going into revision hibernation. Get a group together with some treats and fresh air. Sharing your ideas, knowledge and chocolate can only be a good thing.
Test each other. Not only will be able to hear your buddies’ ideas and answers, you will be able to practise your own and correct each other when needed.
4) Highlight like it is going out of fashion
Let the highlighter be your best friend. However, don’t go to over the top and highlight the whole page of a book. As pretty as it will look, it won’t help the facts go into your brain. Keeping your highlighting to the most important bits of info will really help your brain remember key points.
Notes are your best friends: don’t just read and highlight information in your text books. Re-write the key points to help your brain absorb the facts.
