John studied the two year Computing HND on the Networks Engineering pathway, before ‘topping up’ his qualification and joining the third year of the Computing degree.

Since graduating, John has worked mainly in the automotive and aerospace industries, on exciting projects for companies including Jaguar Land Rover, Bombardier Transportation and AgustaWestland Helicopters. John is currently working with Airbus to help develop and upgrade one of its software solutions to best manage the quality of new aircraft sections.

“I truly enjoyed my time as a student; the lecturers were fantastic, all of the course material was relevant and the broad first year subjects helped me make the choice about what I wanted to do in the future. The Computing course is split into different pathways as opposed to completely different courses, which ensures you are not a specialist in just one thing.

During my third year I had the chance to work with a company in the industry, trialing a piece of software that was based on my dissertation work and Microsoft’s Kinect. This was a great opportunity to gain some first-hand experience and couldn’t have been more helpful for my career.

I would say 90–95 per cent of the things I learnt at University I still use at work every day!

I can honestly say these skills gave me an edge over other graduates and I would highly recommend the Computing course.”
