From the perspective of a first year student, leaving London to live in Northampton was a daunting experience. I had my worries and doubts about whether I’d grow accustomed to life outside of London and whether I’d feel comfortable living in Northampton. Having lived in London my entire life, this was a big change for me.

Naturally, the first few days of living in Northampton were tough.

Naturally, the first few days of living in Northampton were tough. I wasn’t sure where the nearest shops were, I didn’t know the bus routes into town as well as the ones linking both Park and Avenue Campus together and Northampton’s a lot smaller than London too, a part of me missed living in a large city. I was outside of my comfort zone, this was a change that I was adjusting to and one that I would still be adjusting to three weeks into my course.

Since moving to Northampton and being the introvert I once was, I’ve changed immensely. I love being at the University and studying English with Creative Writing. I’ve met some amazing people who also happen to be some of the most creative individuals I have ever come across, being both inspiring and supportive to study and write with.

Since moving to Northampton and being the introvert I once was, I’ve changed immensely.

The friendships forged whilst being at University are the ones that remind you that change isn’t always a bad thing, they make change easier. I’ve had a great time going into town with friends and spending countless hours talking, laughing and writing at the “Bar With No Name”. I feel like I’ve already accumulated so many great memories I can look back on, especially our night out on Halloween! University’s barely begun and Northampton already feels like a place where I belong.

For those of you who live in London and are worried about leaving or life in Northampton in general, don’t be. A lot of people will be in the same position as you and you’ll surprise yourself at how well you can adapt to change. It’s often said by many that Uni will be some of the best years of your life and frankly, I agree. I’ve met some incredible people and made some fantastic memories in Northampton already and I’ve only been here for a little over a month. You’ll have the opportunity to discover yourself and personally, I’ve found that to be a priceless experience.
