Motorsport-mad Sam’s dreams came true when he joined Formula 1 power unit manufacturer Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) as an apprentice aged 16. Now responsible for programming, setting and manufacturing powertrain components at HPP’s Brixworth base, Sam wanted to progress his career by studying Engineering at the University on day release — and graduated with a first class honours degree in 2015.
“My degree has allowed me the opportunity to show I am capable of developing myself, and thinking outside of the box. Having a first class engineering degree, and years of manufacturing experience, I can steer my career path and move towards a more engineering based role within the business.
The spotlight might be on our drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, and those who are working at the track, but Mercedes is a much bigger team, employing the very best people in the world.”
