First term for real: things to do now freshers is over
Now that freshers events are over, here are some ideas about how to spend your time off, from third year ad student Callum Evans and friends
Well, the first few (maybe wobbly?) weeks are over. Freshers is an almost distant memory and hopefully you are settled in.
You are probably tired, and some of you may have let your bank account empty a bit quicker than you meant to. But the real enjoyment starts now that you’re more settled… and you may have itchy feet to get away from campus wanting to explore your surroundings a bit more — so here are a few ideas to get you started, from Scotch Egg Sunday to the best places to view the autumn leaves.
Student discounts
These two words are words I live for. Luckily, there are quite a few places that are offering student discounts around town. So… here are some of the top in my books.
- Vue Cinema — you may not know but they actually offer cheaper tickets on Mondays, all you need to do is sign up online to slash the prices. Just follow the link below. You’re welcome.
- Laser Zone — What is there not to love about running around a dark room, shooting lasers at your friends while screaming victory? And to top it off, it’s just £2.50 per game for each person on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and you can catch a 10-minute bus from town to get there, by either getting on the number 8, 12, or 31.
- TenPin Bowling — this one is perfect to get your flats together. Over in Sixfields Tenpin bowling has an offer on Thursdays, for £10 each you can get two rounds of bowling, a sharing platter, and a drink each.
Nightlife options?
For those who have been out and about with their freshers’ wrist bands, these next few weeks is the time to start exploring other club nights, like Decibel.
Societies starting…
Remember that soc or sports club you signed up with at Union Day… the Meditation Society? The SnowSports Society? Now it’s time to actually get involved.
If there was one you liked, but you didn’t bite the bullet at the time— send them a message and just go. It’s the perfect thing to do to really get you settled in to uni.
Preloved vintage
To finish up, here is a little gem that comes to Northampton from time to time. If you have come to University and realised that your wardrobe might need a bit of sprucing up, or if you just want to browse for the afternoon, this one is perfect. Over in the Guildhall there will be six TONNES of preloved, retro and vintage clothing. Sign up on Facebook page to get one of 500 free tickets.
Really though, it’s all very well me telling you what’s on around Northampton. But the best thing for you to do is to just explore it for yourself.
Every time you go out you will find another gem, whether it’s Scotch Egg Sunday on Magee Street, a new film release at Errol Flynn or simply a nice spot in Becket’s Park, just go explore.
