A group of 18 students from the Early Years Foundation Degree, ITT Early Years and PG EYTS route had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Hungary with their tutors, Eleonora Teszenyi and Gillian Sykes. Student Amy tells us all about it:

This field trip was an amazing opportunity, one that I couldn’t pass up. We had the privilege of being totally immersed in different types of kindergartens, to discuss approaches with the pedagogues and to really get a feel for early years education and care in a European context.

I took in so much information and saw many elements of excellent practice that will inform what I do going forward. It also encouraged me to reflect on our own provision in this country and to spend time thinking about and taking pride in what we do well here.

Beyond the kindergartens, we learnt so much about the country and culture of Hungary, and its history, through the personal knowledge and experiences of the trip leader. Her knowledge and support on this trip, and the authentic opportunities she provided for us through her personal and professional connections, were priceless and could not be replicated. The trip was well organised, all arrangements ran smoothly during our time there, and it was well structured, with just the right balance of time in kindergartens, time to reflect on what we observed, and to explore our surroundings. It was excellent value for money in terms of the opportunities we had and the standard of the accommodation.

Finally the trip was a great opportunity to get to know other students who share the same passion for early years education and care; we were really encouraged by our lecturers to come together and share this wonderful experience.
