Early Childhood Studies: Warda’s story
My name is Warda Omar and I joined the University of Northampton as a student in September 2014, studying Early Childhood Studies.
Before joining the University I studied Cache level 3 diploma in Milton Keynes College intending to complete an extended diploma. However I had to switch to an access course to pursue my career, where I gained UCAS points and join the university.
I therefore began the early childhood study degree full time, attending three days in a week. Studying at the University of Northampton gave me incredible in-depth knowledge and understanding of various aspects, such as child holistic development, team work and the ability to think and analyse critically.
Being an EAL student, at times I used to doubt myself, thinking that I will never reach where I am now. However, with the relevant support from the lecturers, peers, being optimistic and hardworking enabled me to gained confidence in my communication skills, able to express myself and interact with others. Surely, I strongly agree what Bandura (1977) stated about self-efficacy belief “You never know what you can do unless you try!”. Thanks for the University of Northampton I wouldn’t have seen this quote if it wasn’t for this course.
I am currently employed by Milton Keynes council as an early years practitioner working in various children centres.
