ASSIST stands for Additional Student Support and Inclusion Services Team and it does what it says on the tin by providing a range of support for students with:

  • physical impairments
  • sensory impairments
  • mental health difficulties
  • medical conditions
  • Autistic spectrum disorders
  • specific learning difficulties, for example dyslexia

Through their services they can provide support throughout your study here at The University of Northampton. This is available to new and current students, part time or full time, international or home students as well as for distance learners.

They aim to enable students to take control of their learning and develop skills need for employment. They do so by:

  • Providing guidance and advice from our disability advisors
  • helping you in your interactions with your academic tutors
  • dyslexia screenings
  • personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs)
  • deaf pagers for use on campus and in Halls of residence
  • exam arrangements for disabled students
  • Academic Inclusion Reports (AIRs) detailing the nature of the difficulties and recommendations for reasonable adjustments and inclusive support
  • priority status applications for halls of residence
  • specialist study skills support
  • specialist mentoring support
  • advice about specialist grants and help with DSA application
  • referrals to other university services and departments when appropriate
  • priority parking permits for disabled students on campus
