February the 14th, Valentine’s Day, hate it or love it, it is the day of love celebration. It is fast approaching so in that spirit we have put together a list of the best romantic films. So grab the love hearts, fried eggs and gummy bears (other love inspired sweets are also acceptable) and snuggle.

  1. The Notebook

Classic Valentine’s day film, if you haven’t seen it already you NEED to watch it. It tells the story of true love between a young lady from a rich family (Rachel McAdams) and Noah a working class man (played by Ryan Gosling, reason enough to watch this) and the struggles that their love faces with the class divide.

2) 500 Days of Summer

Not a classic story of love, this film takes a realistic approach and exposes all ups and downs of love. It is the story of a young hopeless romantic who falls for a new co-worker who has totally opposites opinion on love and relationships. Features an amazing soundtrack, Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt,what more can you want?

3) When Harry Met Sally

Love that isn’t instant is sometimes the most best kind, as shown by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Starting off by frustrating each other, then being friends and finally realising they are meant for each other. It features some iconic movie moments… ‘I’ll have what she’s having’

4) 50 First Dates

This rom-com features Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler and is set in the beautiful location of Hawaii. Barrymore’s plays a woman who suffers short term memory loss and can’t remember each individual day; Sandler is a commitment phobe who changes his ways when he meets her in a café one morning. Realising that she doesn’t remember him, he makes it his mission to make her fall in love with him each and every day.

5) Crazy stupid love

This film is packed with stars, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Steve Carrell and is a this hilarious story about a middle-aged man (Carrell) going through a divorce and seeking out the help of a swave bachelor (Gosling). Not very lovey-dovey it is perfect for those at early-date stage.

6) One Day

Starting off their friendship by hooking up on the night of their Graduation Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Strugess) remain friends. Speaking or meeting up on the anniversary of their graduation 15th July every year. They go through the highs and lows in their lives, eventually realising that they are meant to be together.

7) P.S. I Love You

Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler feature in this adaption of the novel by Cecelia Ahern. Holly (Swank)is having to deal with the tragic loss of her husband Jerry (Butler). Struggling to come to terms with the loss, she finds that he has left her letters, each one leading her to a new adventure.
