It is almost time to start University!

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the excitement of fresher’s week and push thoughts of the course to the back of your mind.

Here are a few things that you can do in order to adapt to University learning so you can make the most of your studies.

1. Plan ahead for those first few lectures by making sure you know where you need to be and when. This way you won’t stress yourself out by getting lost or being late.

2. Make sure you have plenty of stationary; there will be a lot of note taking.

3. If you are given a module outline in the first lecture make sure you read it through so you can be prepared for what’s to come. Take note of suggested readings, it doesn’t ever hurt to read too much.

4. Manage your time. Try to get yourself into a study routine, working this around your other commitments and activities. Familiarise yourself with the Library, with all the independent learning this is a very handy place to know about.

5. Don’t panic! If you are worried about how to adapt to the University way of learning then why not join the pre-study programme.

6. We have a team of tutors who offer guidance and tuition on a variety of academic skills, so if you are struggling to adapt then make sure you pop into see them.

7. Independent study is not what it says on the tin. Although your learning will be focused on independent study it is always important to get the most out of your tutors, listen to their feedback and suggestions, they are the experts after all. Getting together for study sessions with your course mates is a great way to learn new things, develop your team work and have fun whilst you are studying.

University can be a big change from sixth form or college and this can be daunting but it can also be very exciting.
