From what we hear all the time, the phase of being a student in one’s life is considered to be the most fun, and I agree to this completely. Being a student in my home country was great fun, but being an international student is much more than what I had expected it would be like.

FRIENDS (from around the world)

What are the chances that a person can have an insight into the cultures of so many countries from around the globe by just being in a single room. I have friends from Thailand, China, Italy, Myanmar, Vietnam, Romania and of course from India. It is just incredible how much I can learn by talking to them just for a couple of minutes.

STUDENT AMBASSADOR ROLE

Being a student ambassador actually turned out to be really much more exciting than I expected it to be. As a student ambassador I got to know the University much better. It is only very recently that I realised that working as a student ambassador apart from being a well paid job, is actually quite fun. I got to talk to so many prospective students, which brought back so many memories for me for when I wanted to come here as a student. And talking to the young Year 9 students is so much fun! They are so enthusiastic but shy at the same time.

THE SOCIETIES

Northampton’s Cultural Quarter

You haven’t really made the best use of your time if you haven’t joined any society at the University. The Students Union at the University of Northampton has a number of societies which cater to all the people. They range from dance to media and journalism, economics, salsa and even a Disney, Harry Potter and Dr. Who society. And going to the society events is probably the best way to make great friends

CULTURE

As is often said, the best way to know and be involved in a place is to indulge in the culture, and theatre is often considered a very appropriate representation of the society. Luckily I got to see a play- ‘Henceforward’ at the Royal & Derngate Theatre and it was an amazing experience. The excitement to go to the theatre and witness a play under the genre of dark comedy was in itself extremely exciting.

TUTORS

The University is not like the traditional universities, and thus it challenges most conventions that defined a University in the earlier days. The tutors are extremely supportive even if they have to make extra efforts for the students they will ensure that they do well. They always try and encourage the students to perform well and are ready to discuss any issues that might be raised.
