12 Christmas Films To Match Student’s Moods
There are hundreds of Christmas films out there and everyone has their favourite. To make it easier for you to decide which to watch we have put together this handy list to match your mood:
Mood 1: Not excited for Christmas yet
Film required: Elf
It is impossible to watch this film and not be happy, if you can watch it with out getting into the festive spirit then there may be something very wrong.
Buddy the elf (Will Ferrell) learns that he is actually a human and sets of to meet his family in the city of Christmas magic, New York (obvs). If you haven’t yet seen it then put it to the top of your essential Christmas viewing list immediately, you won’t regret it!
Mood 2: Feeling the Christmas term homesick-pangs and you need a bit of a cry
Film required: Home Alone
Your nearing the end of 1st term, and it is only natural to be missing the comforts of home. So in the spirit of being homesick we suggest you watch Home Alone. An 8-year old troublemaker must protect his home from a pair of burglars when he is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation (kind of bad really).
Mood 3: Sad, going through a break up, sad. Like SAD.
Film Required: The Holiday
A break up is always hard, especially near Christmas. Think of the positives though, one less present to buy and no having to spend time with anyone’s family apart from your own! So grab the mulled wine and watch The Holiday, a film about house swapping, Christmas and Jude Laws lovely face.
Mood 4: Feeling nostalgic and a bit traditional
Mood Required: The Snowman
This is a Christmas classic. Basically, A boy builds a snowman, and it comes to life on Christmas eve and they fly around together. What more do you need?
Mood 5: Can’t deal with the human race at this time of year any more
Film Required: The Muppet Christmas Carol
Dealing with the rush of Christmas if you work in retail (or not) can be draining, and you might not want to watch a film with actual people in. That is where The Muppet adaptation of The Charles Dickens Christmas Carol comes in handy.
Mood 6: Feeling in love with Christmas again
Film Required: It’s a Wonderful Life
If you love the old black and white movies then this may be the film for you. An angel helps a frustrated businessman by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.
Mood 7: In need of a giggle while wrapping presents
Film Required: The Santa Clause
This film will make you laugh, bowl full of jelly laugh. When Scott Calvin (played by the hilarious Tim Allen) accidentally kills Santa has the challenging job of taking his place, and this comes with many problems.
Mood 8: Loved up
Film Required: Love Actually
If your love is making others around you feel a bit queasy, but you’re in such deep love that you don’t care then Love Actually is the film for you. Romantic, full of Christmas feels, and full of amazing actors. It tells the story of eight couples and their love lives at this festive time of year. This is one for a snuggle-fest.
Mood 9: Not in the Christmas mood at all but still pretty chill though and want to have fun
Film Required: Die Hard
We had to throw this one into the list because it is ALWAYS on at Christmas time. So if your sick of the traditional hype of Christmas don’t worry there is always John McClane (Bruce Willis) saving his wife from a German terrorist.
Mood 11: Looking forward to seeing the family
Film Required: Christmas with the Kranks
Christmas is always a time for family banter, but sometimes you just want to escape and watch the drama of someone else’s. This is where Christmas with The Kranks comes in handy. The Kranks decide that they want to skip Christmas this year and go some where hot (the dream) but instead go into major panic when their daughter tells them she is coming home for Christmas, cue madness!
Mood 12: Competitive!!
Film Required: Deck the halls
The family Christmas board game is always competitive, you see sides of your Nan that will never of expected. All love for each other goes out the window in the battle of who gets Mayfair! If you are fully into the competitive spirit of Christmas then Deck the Halls is for you.
Starring Danny DeVito and Matthew Boderick this film is about two neighbours who go to war when one of them plans to decorate their house with so many lights it can be seen from space.
